As I awoke this morning, sans glasses, I thought about my eyesight and even with it being very poor without aid, I wondered how I would function without my eyesight. What a learning curve that would be – for everyone in the family. Everything in its place, that’s for sure. No more toys lying around the house, all personal items must be kept in the correct spot in the medicine cabinet, no more driving! Yes, there would be mourning for the opportunities lost and the things you will never experience again, but by losing one of your senses you will then be put into a situation where you are to experience life in a completely different manner. Of course, losing my sight would also mean no more washing dishes or laundry. Who wants to eat off dirty dishes and have their clothing turned odd colors or bleached out? But, what blind person wouldn’t actually wish to see a dirty dish if they were given a chance?
On a karmic level, there is a reason for everything that happens in your life. If you lost your sense of hearing, maybe you didn’t listen to others in a past life. In this life, losing your hearing would be an opportunity – not a punishment. Losing your hearing would be an opportunity to truly listen to others – maybe not with your ears, but with your heart! Losing your sight would possibly open the door to new opportunity for you to use your voice in a more public manner or to hear others more fully.
Yes, we take many things in our life for granted. Whether it’s your sight, your hearing, your job, your significant other or your family. While you can learn to deal without such luxuries, would you want to?
