I was watching a rerun of House the other night. I just love House – he’s such a curmudgeon. The show started out with a 15 yr. old faith healer who was in church using his healing ability on an elderly woman who needed to use a walker. While healing the woman he had some sort of an attack which was obviously very painful as he fell to the floor in a fetal position.
When the young man is in the emergency room he tells the attending physician that God talks to him and proceeds to tell her a little bit about herself and for the Dr., this little bit of news hits home and stuns her. Of course Dr. House thinks that the young man’s healing ability is all hooey. House believes that it’s the afflicted person’s strong desire to be healed that actually makes them feel as though they are getting better. After running a ton of medical tests and after the young man heals a terminal cancer patient, it is found that he has a form of herpes virus that causes delusions.
Were these delusions from the virus or actual communication with God? In the medical side of the issue, of course it was a good thing that he was diagnosed….and of course there’s no certainty that ridding the young man of the virus would stop or diminish the spiritual messages. On the spiritual side of the issue is the fact that maybe the virus acted as a catalyst for the opening of the spiritual channels, or maybe it wasn’t directly involved at all but a actually two separate entities.
No matter what you believe in regards to faith healing or modern medicine, there’s always room for an open mind. Do you believe in alternative medicine such as using herbs and healing oils? How about the power of crystals? Energy healing such as Polarity healing or Reiki? Acupuncture? Massage? Have you ever tried using a form of alternative medicine before seeking modern medicine? Do you believe that God can cure all your ills?
There is no right or wrong when it comes to choosing what you believe in regards to your health. Didn’t God create certain people to become very good at healing the sick? Of course! Therefore, didn’t God also create modern as well as alternative healing methods? If both the alternative and modern physicians were given the same quality and amount of schooling and training, wouldn’t they both become the best they were to be? Of course they would have.
Now, as to faith… can God heal you? Yes, absolutely! You’ve but to ask. Keeping in mind that if on your life path you are to meet up with a disease, God will not intervene.
What if you’re a doubting Thomas? Mentally you’re asking, “Please God, heal me.” Then in the next sentence you’re saying “I need an Excedrin”. In a nutshell, aren’t you saying, “Help me – no don’t?” Or was it God that steered you to the medicine cabinet?
So, regardless of who or what you chose for your health care needs (a positive outlook or faith) will vastly improve your chances of healing. No amount of medicine will heal you if you have the mindset of the dying and won’t look at further possibilities.
