I watched a Christmas movie last night about how a woman went on strike a few days before Christmas because she was overwhelmed with the demands that the season brings. Her family was expecting her to do all these wonderful holiday things because in the past she had willingly done them without complaint. But with the added stress of running a successful business she was having difficulty pulling it all together.
The holidays can be an extremely stressful time for many people. As if we werent bogged down by the normal daily routines, we then add the holiday demands and expectations. Its no wonder the woman in the movie decided to go on strike. I must admit that I, too, have felt overburdened during the holidays at times. But this year is different
With just my husband and I home, the holidays have become much easier. Yes, there are demands of the season that must be met, but the expectations I set for myself have become much less rigid. Like in the movie, I have come to the conclusion that the perfect Christmas doesnt need to come with all the trappings. Simple is okay, and I have loosened my control for how tasks need to be done.
At this posting, I know that Christmas is only two days away and that youre all probably hustling and bustling with last minute chores and holiday events. Realize, please, that the season isnt about how many cookies you make, whether you get Christmas cards out two weeks before the holiday or the proper placement of the Christmas tree ornaments. Christmas is about love, not only for others but for yourself as well. Before you feel the need to go on strike because youre overwhelmed, loosen the reins and realize that the perfect Christmas is one were youre relaxed and surrounded by those you love.
May this Christmas be filled with love, joy, laughter and Gods love,
Lisa Bousson
